1. Overview

Smara ("we", "our", "us") is an offline-first reminder app for birthdays, anniversaries, tasks, and wishes. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app may access, how it is used, and your choices. Smara is published by Popular SoftTech and Marketing Private Limited.

2. Offline-First Design

Smara is designed to keep your reminder data on your device. The app does not require an account and does not upload your reminders, contacts, or photos to our servers as part of normal use.

If you choose to open an external link from the app, for example our Privacy Policy page or another app's store listing, that action opens your device browser or store app and is governed by the destination's policies.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

Smara stores the following locally on your phone or tablet:

Reminder details, including names, dates, types, notes, completion status, and notification preferences.
App settings, including theme, default notification options, and security preferences.
Optional reminder photos you attach within the app.
Widget summary data shared only between the Smara app and its home screen widget on the same device.

You can export reminders as a JSON backup file, import a backup file, or clear completed reminders from within the app. Uninstalling Smara removes locally stored app data from your device unless your platform retains backups.

4. Permissions We May Request

a) Notifications

If you enable reminders, Smara requests permission to schedule local notifications on your device. Notification content is generated from your reminders and processed on your device.

b) Contacts

If you use the contact picker, Smara may request access to your address book to fill a name and, when available, a birthday or anniversary date. Contact data is used only for the action you initiate and is not transmitted to us.

c) Camera and Photos

If you attach a photo to a reminder, Smara may request camera or photo library access. Photos are saved locally with your reminder data unless you delete them or uninstall the app.

d) Biometric or device lock

If you enable app lock, Smara uses your device's biometric or device authentication features. Authentication is handled by your operating system; we do not receive or store your biometric data.

5. How We Use Information

Display and manage your reminders, countdowns, and wish messages.
Schedule and deliver local notifications, including optional read-aloud speech on your device.
Provide home screen widgets that show upcoming reminders from local app data.
Protect access to the app when you enable PIN or biometric lock.
Let you export or import reminder backups at your request.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Smara does not sync your reminder content to our servers.

You may choose to share content using your device's native share features, for example when sending a wish message through SMS, WhatsApp, or another app. Those services operate under their own privacy policies.

7. Third-Party Services and Advertising

Smara uses Google AdMob to show native advertisements in parts of the app, including the home, upcoming, completed, add/edit reminder, and wish screens. AdMob and its partners may collect device and advertising data to serve, measure, and improve ads, subject to their own privacy policies.

Smara may link to third-party destinations such as app store listings or this privacy page when you tap those links. Those services operate under their own privacy policies.

8. Security

We use reasonable measures to design Smara for on-device storage. However, no method of electronic storage is completely secure. You are responsible for securing your device and any backup files you create.

9. Children's Privacy

Smara is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Smara in a way that concerns you, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to assist.

10. Your Choices

Edit or delete reminders at any time within the app.
Disable notifications in Smara or in your device settings.
Decline contacts, camera, or photo permissions and still use Smara without those features.
Export your data before uninstalling or resetting your device.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of Smara after an update means you accept the revised policy.
